Most online players leave the poker table, in live games, frustrated. More than a couple of online players sat down at the real table only to get beaten by sinister players. So how could this be possible? How did they do well in the online table? Were the players in real tables are much better? Or is it that online and offline Poker Games are subtly but distinctively different?
The answer is yes, they are different in some ways. Read on and know the things that distinguish online to offline poker.
No Tells
Depending on how well you read your opponents or projects your own image and hand on the table, this can be good or bad. Online poker game can level the playing field, categorizing between beginners and professionals. The sole real tells online can be determined in the player’s betting pattern. You are likely to force the entire table to fold into your pocket bullets if your opponents can’t see the trembling, hyperventilating, sweating, or in some cases, unresponsive catatonic behavior that occasionally happens when trying to control a monster hand. The drawback however is that, you will never learn to hide your tells and read your opponents unless you play live poker.
Faster Pace
Online poker rooms play out at a much faster pace than live games. You don’t have to wait for the cards to be dealt, shuffling, or chip counting. As a result, online players, when playing in live games, will often get impatient and rashly play hands that are meant to be folded. If you are playing in live games, it is wise to be patient. Never panic! Though you are used in playing at a faster pace, remember to hold your temper when playing offline. Don’t think it’s bad luck that you have no playable hands. It’s just that you haven’t seen as many hands, period!
Anonymous Players
When playing at an online Poker Room, you really don’t know who you are playing with. But in live games, pros come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes you just don’t know that you are actually playing with a cardsharp. Additionally, never assume that just because an online player’s name is Brenda that you are playing with a female. Some players are wise enough to use female aliases because they feel that other players will give them less respect. This allows them to take advantage of sexist players.
Exact chip counts
Playing online poker allows you instant access to chip counts. There’s no need to guess, asking or knowing your stack measures up against your opponents. This may not sound important at first, but the moment that you go all-in, without even knowing that your opponents indeed have enough to cover you, you’ll surely understand the value.
Online poker verdict
Playing online is a great way in honing your playing skills. It is the best way to practice your playing skills. Remember however that between the virtual table and real one, few aspects are lost in translation. Balance your online gaming with the real deal and surely you’ll be a versatile player.
